The project area consisted of the eastern half of the block fronting on the former Richmond Street. The area was mechanically stripped and hand excavated, revealing truncated B horizon overlain by historical fill and asphalt. Within the site boundary, six discrete areas were excavated based on planned construction impacts.
These six areas contained the remnants of historic structures and backyards related to properties along Richmond Street. Ten foundations (with one remnant floor) were recorded. Twenty-six post-holes, some with post molds, were identified—most of which appear to have been associated with backyard fence lines. Because the survey area crossed the backyards of historic Richmond Street lots, more shaft features than structures were encountered.
A total of 27 shaft features, including wooden box and brick-lined privies, were located during excavation. Other features included a historic brick drain and two historic pit features.
